GRANTS

Criteria for Awarding Grants

The Nightingale Fund now exists to give financial support for course fees only to nurses, midwives and community public health nurses who are registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). It also supports nursing associates and health care assistants. It considers applications from those who are undertaking further education to enhance nursing practice and improve patient care.

No personal cheques are issued. Invoices are required from the Institution providing the course.

Each year The Nightingale Fund is able to help around 30 practitioners with their course fees, however, The Fund has limited resources and is unable to award the full cost of a course thus applicants are strongly advised to apply to other sources of funding additionally. The Fund supports post registration education and professional development through diploma and post-graduate degrees, including PhDs, specific modules and short courses, defined as five days or greater. Please note that the fund is unable to support the following courses: return to practice, access to nursing or conversion. For more information about specific grant awarding criteria please see the Grant Application Notes (link below).

The Fund adheres to a strict non-discriminatory policy and the amount awarded is considered by the Council on an individual basis with regard to how well the course of study will benefit patient/client care, the profession as a whole and the career aspirations of the applicant.

The Council meets 3 times a year in March (16th January), July (15th May) and November (19th September). The closing date for applications is given in brackets. All applicants are interviewed usually by telephone.
